Dear Gowrie Golfers,
Welcome to the July edition of our monthly newsletter! Despite the cold and windy weather that kept most of us indoors, we had an eventful month with two major events that brought out the brave and determined golfers among us.
- Old Tom Morris Open Weekend: The weather may have been freezing and icy, but that didn’t deter the fearless souls among our members from taking on the course. Mad Dogs, Englishmen, and crazy golfers braved the elements, and the play continued despite the challenging conditions. Won by the Team from Boschoek, congratulations to all those who participated and showcased their unwavering passion for the game.
- Captain’s Fire Friday and Curry Evening: The Captains Fire Friday was a well-attended event, and the curry evening turned out to be nothing short of fantastic! The “Bunny Chows” were a hit, and the camaraderie amongst members made the evening more enjoyable. The event was won by Pete Anderson, Pete Laburn , Jeanne Anderson, John Berning (I think I need to review the Anderson’s Handicap’s – too many prizes, especially since Jeanne played off blue ☺️) A big thank you to everyone who joined us, and special appreciation to Golf Director Phil Simmons, the Pro Shop Team, and the Gowrie Lodge Staff for making it all possible.
Looking Ahead: As we head into August and September, please be aware that we will be implementing temporary greens during these months. This is necessary to allow the regular greens to recover and ensure that our course remains in top condition. Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated during this time.
Save the Date: October Captains vs. Captains: Mark your calendars for a thrilling event in October! The Captains vs. Captains tournament promises to be a competitive and fun-filled affair. The losing captain will be required to dye their hair pink – a light-hearted consequence that adds a touch of humour to the game. More details on this event will be provided by the Pro Shop in the coming months, so stay tuned!
