Gowrie Recommends

The Midlands Meander in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal, is a collection of arranged routes that offer visitors hospitality in truly beautiful surroundings. There is much to explore and do in the Midlands. These are some of our recommended places.

Golf

Gowrie Farm Golf course is a 9 hole course, designed by Guy Smith, an Attorney from Pietermaritzburg. Guy is passionate about classic design and is heavily influenced by the old courses of Scotland and some of the courses built in the United States in the early 1900’s, in particular, Merion and Pinehurst.

  • Very friendly receptionist, helpful with luggage, bartender very friendly too, Breakfast excellent quality. Good night sleep, very quiet, large room (room 1). Golf course very special and interesting layout, some holes you play twice but from completely different tees. Excellent play and stay package.

  • We arrived at ‘Folie house’ to join our husbands after they had a glorious afternoon of awesome golf. Wow! WHAT A LOVELY house. Beautiful chandeliers over a huge 8 seater dinner table, with a log fire place on either side, dinning room and sitting room. Stunning Persian carpets to add that feel of comfort, and style away from home. Simple , but comfort bedrooms, with crisp white percale linen and huge soft pillows. Underfloor heating and heated towel rails with those best white towels. The most beautiful views, often misty, but extremely romantic. 4 on suite bedrooms. Excellent time away with special friends.

  • Stayed over two nights midweek. Very quiet but that’s how we like it. Fantastic golf course and health spas for the wives close by. They only do breakfast but great food and restaurants just a short hop away in Nottingham Road. Plenty to do during the day along the meander route. If you love golf or an idyllic setting then a definite. Will go back often.
