It’s the season for change. No more Thursday morning golf for Gowrie Gals. Commencing on 12 October, Wednesdays will be the golf day of choice. The 9-hole Tuesday school will play on Mondays. Tuesdays are reserved for clinics.
Ladies who attended the most recent clinic have joined in and tested their newly learned skills. The biggest lesson learned? You don’t know what you don’t know…until you tackle the course. Playing strokes on the range mutates into something else when real-time is involved. Strokes count. Rules, etiquette and scoring add another dimension to the great unknown. Take heart ladies; things in golf become more familiar, not necessarily, easier!
Another six week clinic is on offer, starting on 11 October at 8.30-9.30am. This will be a refresher or consolidation course. R1 000 will buy you 6 lessons to hone your skills and boost your confidence. First timers’ lessons will start at 9.45am. Ladies, take advantage of having the very best coach resident here on Gowrie!
On 15th September in a Betterball Stableford, Claire Hoatson and Shan Hulbert shared the podium with Michelle Burger and Meg Hampton (a visitor from Zimbabwe). Both pairs scored 40 points. There was no count out.
Individual Stableford, played on 22nd September, was won by Sarah Ellis. Runner up was Ros Bastard. Thanks to Gareth Robertson and Antonij Rupert Wines for the prizes.
League: Gowrie Gals played Cato/Howick ladies at VCC on Tuesday, 27th September and won 76/68. The last game of the season will take place at Howick on 13th October against Bosch Hoek. Thank you to Wilna du Plessis, our league captain, who has calmly and diligently kept the team positive and fed us her delicious date balls to keep our spirits from flagging!
The Simmon’s Knock Out tournament has been delivering very interesting results. Ladies have been determined and tenacious. Michelle Burger and Carmen Seele went down to father and son team, John and Dale du Preez on the 17th (2 up with 1 to play). The last lady standing is Ange Arbuthnot. She and Mark Arbuthnot are due to take on our coach, Phil Simmons and Trevor Saulez! Go, Arbies, Go!
