Blending countryside seclusion with access to the Scottish-inspired course, the lodge and, scenic walking trails, The Crofts offers guests the space to gather together while enjoying the privacy of their own accommodation.
Space for 36 Guests in Comfort and Style
The Crofts comprises nine two-bedroom units, each accommodating up to four guests. Interiors feature a lounge with fireplace, small veranda, bath and shower and a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering. Available as exclusive-use accommodation or, from December 2025, for individual bookings.
The Crofts is ideal for golf group tours, families, business teams and event guests visiting the Midlands Meander area.
THE CROFTS and their stories
A NAME ROOTED IN SCOTTISH HERITAGE
In the rural tradition of Scotland, a “croft” was a small, self-sufficient holding: a place where land, shelter and community came together. At Gowrie Farm Lodge & Golf Course in Nottingham Road, the name feels especially fitting. The estate itself takes its name from a region in Scotland, and our golf course first took shape here in 1923. Our design draws deeply from Scottish heritage - from the influence of Old Tom Morris to green complexes inspired by the game’s earliest courses.
The Crofts extend that legacy. This collection of nine private, fully appointed cottages, gathered around King's Barn, honours the places and people who have shaped Gowrie Farm. Each Croft name tells a story - recognising the early days of golf in South Africa and the courses in Scotland, Ireland and America that inspired our design. Together, they link our Midlands home to the wider history of the game.
The Heart of the Crofts
At the centre of The Crofts stands King's Barn - a gathering place that blends modern comfort with the character of Nottingham Road’s countryside. Its design nods to the area’s agricultural past and to Gowrie Farm's own history, with a golf course first laid out here in 1923. Like the course itself - re-opened in 2008 and completed in 2024 - King's Barn is part of a story that blends heritage with progress. The Crofts now carry that story forward.
Inside you will find a 36-seater conference and events space framed by an open fireplace and Morso stove, creating a warm, year-round setting for groups. It’s equipped with a full kitchen, flexible seating layouts and doors that open to a broad patio - perfect for post-round gatherings, private dinners or strategy sessions.
Whether you’re here for golf, business, or a celebration, King's Barn stands as both a hub for today’s guests and a quiet reminder of the stories that have always been part of Gowrie Farm.
