Matthew Hoines Gowrie Farm Course Report - Winter 2026
Winter has arrived at Gowrie Farm and the course is beginning to reflect it - colours are starting to turn, conditions are firming up, and the fairways are taking on the character that defines golf in the Midlands through the cooler months.
It has been a busy stretch with several events and golf days across the past month, and the course has held up well throughout.
The greens are running at just over 10 on the stimpmeter and remain in good health, with no disease issues to report. Areas on the newer greens that had been given time to recover are now back in play and mowing has resumed fully.
Moles continue to present challenges on several tees, but the team is working hard to manage the issue. Elsewhere, the approaches are looking strong, bunkers remain well-maintained and hand-raked daily, and fairway colour is naturally beginning to shift with the changing season.
A number of visual improvements have also taken place around the course. New trees have been planted on the 5th and 7th holes to help shape and define the tee shots, while pruning and clearing work around the waterway on the 16th has opened up the fairway beautifully from the tee.
