Honouring Ladies Golf
Honouring Ladies Golf Celebrating Achievement, Camaraderie and Community
This past Women’s Month reminded us of the remarkable role women play in shaping Gowrie Farm - honouring the contribution of Joan Simmons helping to build the now thriving Ladies section, applauding our Lady Captain, Deidre Clarke, and celebrating the dedication of our ladies’ members, both long-standing and new. Together with the encouragement of our wider community - including the men’s teams who never fail to cheer us on - the Gowrie Ladies’ Section continues to thrive as one of the club’s proudest legacies.
Earlier in the year, our Lady Captain Deidre flew the Gowrie Farm flag at the 30th Senior Women’s Golf SA Nationals in Gauteng (25–28 May). Representing KwaZulu-Natal, she played a leading role in the team’s 2nd-place finish and added a string of individual titles to her name - a remarkable achievement that continues to inspire.
Closer to home, August delivered its own milestones. The Gowrie Farm Ladies League team captured the 2025 championship - a landmark victory and testament to their commitment and skill. Along the way, Wilna du Plessis delivered a standout moment, sinking a confidence-shattering eagle 2 on the 1st hole at Gowrie, a shot that set the tone for the team’s success.
The month culminated in the Yellowstone Festival (27–28 August), which welcomed a record 108 entrants, including 75 ladies travelling from Gauteng, the coasts, Upper Highway, and Cape Town. With the generous support of local businesses and sponsors, the festival not only celebrated women’s golf but also firmly secured its place as a highlight on the Midlands golfing calendar.
From national recognition to provincial triumphs and record-breaking festivals, our ladies have carried the Gowrie Farm spirit with distinction. The story of women’s golf at Gowrie Farm is one of vision, camaraderie, and community support - and with every season, it grows stronger.
Our deepest thanks go to the ladies of Gowrie Farm. Your achievements, on and off the course, ensure that women’s golf here is not only thriving, but leaving a legacy for generations to come.
