Anthony Barnard - Gowrie Farm Club Captain 2024

Anthony Barnard CAPTAIN'S LETTER - HALF-YEARLY UPDATE

To All Esteemed Members of Gowrie Farm Golf Course,

As the captain of Gowrie Farm Golf Course, it is with great joy that I present to you our half-yearly update. The past six months have been nothing short of extraordinary, marked by significant milestones, thrilling tournaments, and a testament to the strong camaraderie that binds our golfing community. Allow me to take you through the highlights of our journey thus far.

OPENING OF THE NEW 7 HOLES

We began this year with a momentous occasion - the opening of our new magnificent 7 holes. This expansion has transformed Gowrie Farm into a full 18-hole course, a dream come true for all of us. The design and execution of these holes have been met with resounding praise, offering new challenges and breathtaking views. The addition not only enhances the golfing experience but also solidifies our position as one of the premier golfing destinations in the region.

TOURNAMENT YOUNG TOM MORRIS

The Tournament Young Tom Morris was a showcase of young talent and competitive spirit. Named after the legendary golfer, this event drew participants from far and wide, eager to etch their names in the annals of Gowrie Farm. The enthusiasm and skill displayed by our young golfers were truly inspiring, and it was heartwarming to see the future of golf shine so brightly on our greens.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE WINNER DANIEL GREENE

One of the most anticipated events of the year, the Club Championship, lived up to its reputation of excitement and high stakes. The competition was fierce, but in the end, it was Daniel Greene  emerged victorious. His dedication, precision, and sportsmanship set a benchmark for all. We congratulate Daniel on this remarkable achievement and look forward to seeing more of his exceptional play in the future.

NEW SCOTTISH KILT TRADITION

In a nod to our rich golfing heritage, we introduced a new tradition at Gowrie Farm - the wearing of Scottish kilts during special tournaments. This tradition not only adds a touch of elegance and historical significance to our events but also fosters a deeper connection with the roots of the sport. The sight of our members donning kilts and embracing this tradition has been a delightful addition to our club's culture.

SA U15 CHAMPIONSHIP

Our commitment to nurturing young talent was further evident in hosting the SA U15 Championship. This event was a platform for the stars of tomorrow to showcase their skills and gain invaluable experience. The level of play was exceptional, and it was encouraging to see so many young golfers with immense potential. We are proud to support and encourage the development of junior golf in South Africa.

ADDITIONAL CHANGES – NEW ENTRANCE

To complement the expansion of our course, we have also made significant enhancements to our facilities. The new entrance, designed to provide a grand and welcoming approach to Gowrie Farm, is now complete. This upgrade not only improves the aesthetic appeal but also enhances the overall experience for our members and visitors.

SUCCESS OF NUMZAANS AND LADIES SECTION

Our Numzaans and Ladies sections have seen tremendous success over the past six months. The Numzaans, with their vibrant energy and competitive spirit, have consistently performed at the highest level, bringing pride to our club. Similarly, our Ladies section has flourished, with increased participation and remarkable achievements in various tournaments. Their contributions to the club's success cannot be overstated, and we applaud their dedication and excellence.

PHIL SIMMONS' 70th BIRTHDAY

A special mention goes to Phil Simmons, our beloved Golf Director, who celebrated his 70th birthday this year. Phil's leadership, wisdom, and passion for the game have been instrumental in the growth and success of Gowrie Farm. We are grateful for his unwavering commitment and wish him many more years of health and happiness.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

As we look ahead, there are several exciting events on the horizon.  The Lottostar Pro-Am will bring together amateurs and professionals in a spirited competition. The Beef vs Dairy and Numzaans vs Kheles matches will undoubtedly be fiercely contested, showcasing the camaraderie and friendly rivalry that defines our club. Additionally, the Ladies Tournament will be another opportunity for our talented female golfers to shine.

THANKS TO ALL THE GREEN KEEPING STAFF

None of these achievements would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our green keeping staff. Moses and Matt, in particular, have gone above and beyond to maintain our course in pristine condition. Their efforts ensure that our greens are always in top shape, providing the perfect setting for every round of golf. We extend our heartfelt thanks to them and the entire green keeping team.

THANKS TO PRO SHOP AND FRONT OFFICE STAFF

Our Pro Shop staff, Chris and Eve, along with all our front office staff, deserve special recognition for their exceptional service and support. Their commitment to ensuring that every member and visitor has a seamless and enjoyable experience at Gowrie Farm is commendable. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team.

Lastly, I want to extend my gratitude to each and every member of Gowrie Farm Golf Course. Your support, participation, and enthusiasm are what make our club a thriving community. Together, we have created a place where friendships are forged, skills are honed, and memories are made.

Whether you are a seasoned player or a newcomer to the game, the bonds formed on the fairways and greens of Gowrie Farm are invaluable. It is this sense of community and mutual respect that makes our club truly special.
