Numzaans Co-Captain's Report
Gary van Eyk & George Clark NUMZAANS CO-CAPTAIN'S LETTER - HALF-YEARLY UPDATE
Numzaans Senior golf at Gowrie Golf Club is championed by George Clark and Gary van Eyk.
Senior golf at Gowrie Farm is pleased to provide the following update:
Tuesday golf is reflecting a 40% increase compared with the first 7 months of last year. Our new 7 holes has had a direct impact on turnout, together with course quality and experience.
Eclectic Monthly Stableford played the second Tuesday of every month. All golfers start the year with two stableford points per hole. Any improved score achieved on that Tuesday of any hole, the card is updated. Providing the opportunity to finish the year with score card reflecting the golfers combined best stableford scores. Currently we have five Numzaans reflecting a score card of 50 or more stableford points. The golfer with the best stableford scorecard is recognised at our annual Christmas party luncheon. Numzaans monthly trophy is another drawcard for our seniors. Pete Davies won July with 39 Stableford points. June won by Cash Comrie with May winner, Piet Pelser.
The annual Dairy vs Beef farmer golf challenge hosted by Numzaans and sponsored by Investec together with Jonnsons Workwear is scheduled for Friday 20th of September at Gowrie. This year’s competition is the third consecutive year, drawing farmers from further afield. The event is hosted by Numzaans Senior Golf, Gowrie Golf Club. 2022 and 2023 events were won by beef farmers. The dairy fraternity are keen to get their efforts engraved on the trophy. John du Preez is captain of beef and George Clark captain of dairy. The Floating Trophy was donated by Pete Anderson, Llanwarne Estates. The sought after trophy has origins dating back to 1960 for the Annual Pongola Livestock Show.
Numzaans vs Khlehles bi-annual challenge will also be scheduled for Tuesday 22nd October 2024. Bosch Hoek's monthly Tuesday school will defend their victory in 2023 against Numzaans (Gowrie Tuesday golf school). The additional holes at Gowrie Farm are expected to be a worthy challenge for the current 'milk can' holders.
On behalf of all our senior golfers, a sincere thank you to our professional, Phil Simmons and his proshop team. Matt, Moses, and the industrious crew out there making our golf the experience it is. Ever and the catering team who have the halfway house and the post-match festivities sorted.
