Celebrating the Gowrie Farm Ladies League 2025 Win
A Toast to the Champions Who Made Gowrie Farm Proud
A celebratory dinner was recently hosted by Guy Smith and Dale Hayes in honour of our Gowrie Farm Ladies Golf team, who clinched a nail-biting victory in the 2025 Ladies League season.
Under the inspired captaincy of Missy Hughes, the team showed true grit, teamwork, and determination to take Gowrie Farm to the top of the leaderboard. The final results reflected just how close the competition was:
Final Results:
Gowrie – 424 pts
VCC A – 420 pts
MGC A – 356 pts
Representing Gowrie Farm with pride were Missy Hughes, Carmen Seele, Daryl Fainsinger, Janeen Cole, Joanna Duminy, Kath Du Preez, Leigh Beckerling, Patty Van Eyk, Rita du Plessis, Shelley March, Wilna du Plessis, Sarah Ellis and Deidre Clarke. — a formidable team whose commitment and camaraderie made this remarkable victory possible.
A big feather in the cap for our Gowrie Farm Ladies — what a fantastic achievement!

Guy Smith congratulated the team and expressed how elated he was with their win. He also made a touching tribute to Phil Simmons. When Phil first joined Gowrie Farm, there was no active ladies’ section. Guy noted that Phil would be very proud, not only of the team’s success but of the growth and spirit of Gowrie Farm Ladies Golf as a whole.
The ladies will fondly remember how Phil would often shake his head in dismay at some of their “creative” shots, a light-hearted reminder of how far they’ve all come.
Missy thanked Guy for the beautiful course he has created and celebrated the ladies’ incredible achievement. She also made it clear that her sights are already set on the 2026 title.
Just as the evening’s celebrations began to settle, the tables turned on Guy himself. Despite his best efforts to keep his birthday under wraps (so as not to steal the limelight from the team), the ladies had other plans!
A surprise birthday cake appeared, followed by singing and cheer. He made a wish, though the ladies were likely wishing he’d decide to fill in some of those “furry” bunkers that so often foil their game!
Guy was also presented with a personalised golf shirt, which the ladies declared his new “lucky shirt” for all future competitions.
Deidre Clarke noted how inspiring such recognition is for the Gowrie Farm Ladies, helping to build team spirit and camaraderie, and thanked Guy and Dale on behalf of the entire team.
A fitting end to a remarkable season for our Gowrie Farm Ladies League Champions!
We are enormously proud of you all!
Yours aye,
Gowrie Farm Team
