Director of Golf Announcement

Jonathan-Menteath-Director-Golf-Gowrie-Farm

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Menteath as Gowrie Farm’s Director of Golf. He will officially join us on the 1st of March 2025.

Jonathan grew up in Durban and was from 2015 until October last year, the Golf Director and General Manager at Heritage Golf Club in Mauritius, overseeing two 18 hole courses and a 9 hole course. Under his leadership, the newly opened La Réserve Golf Links hosted the 2023 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a DP World Tour event, which had also previously been played on their Heritage Course.

In recognition of his expertise, Jonathan was named PGA International Award Winner for 2023 by the PGA of South Africa. He holds Fellow status with the PGA and has a B.Com degree majoring in Finance.

Before his time in Mauritius, Jonathan was Director of Golf at Arabella near Hermanus and managed the pro shop at Pinnacle Point. His career also includes roles as an assistant professional at River Club and Zebula Country Club. He is passionate about junior coaching and has also overseen six DP World Tour events and numerous Sunshine Tour tournaments. In 2017, he was part of the greenkeeping team at the Masters Tournament at Augusta, Georgia.

Jonathan, his wife Jade, and their two sons, Jordan (9) and Joshua (7), recently returned to Durban, driven by their love for South Africa. With his wealth of expertise and passion for the game, Jonathan will be instrumental in enhancing our golfing experience and driving the club’s continued success, making him a worthy successor to Phil Simmons.

Bringing Phil on board in 2019, an esteemed Master PGA professional, marked a transformative moment for Gowrie Farm. From the day he joined the team, his expertise, leadership, and dedication elevated the club to new heights. Alongside his partner Joan, they built a thriving ladies’ section and mentored future lady captains. Beyond golf and his contributions to the members and countless visitors of Gowrie Farm, Phil’s presence and camaraderie will be greatly missed. As Phil steps away due to health reasons, he and Joan leave behind an enduring legacy that will be cherished at Gowrie Farm for years to come.

As we move forward in this leadership transition, we do so with gratitude for Phil’s remarkable impact and extend a warm welcome to Jonathan, looking forward to his contributions at Gowrie Farm.
