The 16th at Gowrie Farm is a short par 4 measuring between 265 and 335 metres. Colourful shrubs line the left-hand side, while the wetland that cuts into the fairway creates the defining decision from the tee.

Risk or Reward

For the longer hitter, the green may be within reach from the tee, making the 16th a classic risk-and-reward hole.

For most golfers, however, the better option is to lay up to the right of the wetland, which juts into the fairway between approximately 160 and 200 metres. Position rather than distance is the priority, leaving a shorter approach into the green.

The Second Shot

The approach is where the 16th presents its next test. The green is long and narrow, with three bunkers guarding the left-hand side and another positioned to the right.

A well-placed tee shot should leave a lofted club into the green and a good opportunity to give yourself a birdie putt.

Framed by the Landscape

The green is beautifully framed by colourful shrubs along the mounds beyond and to the left, adding to what is already one of the more picturesque settings on the course.

With the wetland, planting and surrounding landscape all coming into view, we suspect the 16th may also become a popular spot for a photograph or two during a round at Gowrie Farm.

At 265–335 metres, the 16th may be short on the scorecard, but the wetland and narrow green ensure there is still plenty to think about. Take on the green from the tee or play for position — the choice is yours.
