Playing the 14th: Beauty with Consequence

The second nine holes at Gowrie Farm feature three par 3s, three par 4s and three par 5s. The second of the par 3s is the 14th — a picturesque hole framed by water and elevated tee boxes that sit well above the level of the green.

A Striking Setting

From every tee, the 14th offers a clear view across a beautiful expanse of water that guards the right-hand side of the hole. While visually inviting, the setting can quickly punish indecision or poor club selection.

A Narrow Target

The green itself is long and narrow, demanding accuracy rather than aggression. To the left, natural mounding can occasionally assist a slightly pulled tee shot back towards the putting surface, offering a small margin of forgiveness.

Club Selection Matters

The penalty area to the right can make the 14th a dangerous hole, particularly when players become distracted by the water carry. As Bobby Locke famously said, the smartest choice is often your “15th club” — “the one that keeps your hat on.” Sensible club selection and commitment to the shot shape usually leave par firmly within reach.

A Hole for Every Golfer

The hole measures 180 metres from the yellow markers down to 125 metres from the purple tees, ensuring it remains both approachable and challenging across all levels of play.
